What Happens When You Quit Vaping?

Quitting vaping is one of the most important decisions you can make—both for the environment and your health. Whether you’ve been vaping for a few months or a few years, it’s never too late to stop. Your body has an incredible ability to heal itself, and the benefits of quitting kick in after just one day of quitting!

We’ll break down the day-by-day changes that happen in your body after you quit vaping. We understand quitting isn’t always easy, so we also have tips and resources for quitting vaping. Understanding these positive changes can help keep you motivated and show you just how worth it the journey is.

Day 1: Your heart and lungs start to recover. In just a single day of not vaping, your body gets to work. Your blood pressure drops, and your heart rate returns to a healthier level, lowering your risk of a heart attack immediately.On top of that, your lungs start to clear out some of the chemicals they’ve been exposed to. You may not feel it right away, but your body is making moves to repair the damage.

Day 2: Your taste and smell begin to improve. Vaping can blunt your senses, but after just 48 hours without a puff, you may begin to notice your ability to taste and smell improve.2

Day 3: Nicotine is out of your body.If you haven’t experienced nicotine withdrawals yet, you may experience them on day 3. They can come in the form of headaches, sweating, cramping, and strong cravings. While this can feel tough, these symptoms are temporary as the body heals.

Your lungs start to improve

Day 30: Energy and breathing start to improve.23 You’ll probably notice a big boost in your energy, thanks to your body getting more oxygen and likely better sleep.
